My turn to run the morning assembly this morning.
We prepared 2 sessions: a student presentation about recycling and a new teacher sharing.
I'm that new teacher.
Having not much to share about myself, I decided to talk about my kids and how I raise them. And the recent teaching experience at this school has reminded me the good old days at another school.
So I spent a few minutes typing the ideas, and used AI to write the script.
The feedback is pretty positive and many teachers had small talks with me about the sharing.
Interview Script: Morning Assembly with Miss Lee
[Marcus (F.2D)]:
Good morning, everyone! I’m Marcus from F.2D.
[Kennis (F.2A)]:
Hi, I’m Kennis from F.2A!
[Alvin (F.2A)]:
Hello, I’m Alvin from F.2A!
[Marcus]: Today,
we have a special guest—Miss Lee, our new teacher. She has an amazing
background in farming, and we're excited to hear all about it. Welcome, Miss
Lee!
[Miss Lee]: Hi
everyone! I’m really happy to be here and share my experiences with you.
[Kennis]: Miss
Lee, can you tell us what got you started in farming?
[Miss Lee]: Sure!
I started my farming journey when I supervised the Environmental Club at my
last school. We spent a lot of time learning about the environment and
exploring nature.
[Alvin]: Interesting!
What was one of the coolest projects you worked on with the club?
[Miss Lee]: One of
the best was a field trip to my home in Sheung Shui, where I have a large piece
of farmland. The students got to experience firsthand what it’s like to work on
a farm.
[Marcus]: That
sounds cool! I guess not many students have had the opportunity to go to a
teacher’s home and try farming by themselves. What did you have to do to
prepare for that field trip?
[Miss Lee]:
Preparing for the trip took quite a bit of work. I cleared out the weeds and
plowed the soil. Plus, I had to buy fences from Prince Edward to keep the dogs
away from our plants, which was quite a physical challenge.
[Kennis]: Wow! In
order to decide which seeds to plant with the students, I also heard you
borrowed lots of books from the library to find out which plants and vegetables
would grow well.
[Miss Lee]: Oh
yes, I wanted to make sure we picked ones that wouldn’t die easily and would be
easy for everyone to grow.
[Alvin]: That’s a
smart approach! What did the students get to do during the field trip?
[Miss Lee]: Each
student received a ticket that let them try different activities.
[Marcus]: In the
photos, we can see students pulling weeds, plowing the soil, sowing seeds, and
watering the plants. They seemed so excited to participate! And what was the
reward for completing all those tasks?
[Miss Lee]: Those
who finished their tasks received a pot of lettuce that had already grown for
two weeks as a souvenir!
[Kennis]: That sounds
great! You also teach your own kids about farming, right? How do you do that?
[Miss Lee]: Yes!
My 3-year-old son once asked for baked sweet potato, so we planted some
together. We watered them daily, and when it was time to harvest, we dug them
up together. It was such a fun learning experience!
[Alvin]: That
sounds like a great way to bond with your kids! What did you do after
harvesting the sweet potatoes?
[Miss Lee]: We
cleared the weeds and then took everything to a barbecue pit I built myself. My
son was so excited to see the fire roasting the sweet potatoes!
[Marcus]: And I
heard you also taught them how to make jam. How did that go?
[Miss Lee]: Yes!
My 1.5-year-old daughter and my son helped me pick berries near our home. After
washing them, we added sugar, blended everything, and boiled it. It was a
delightful experience, and they loved it!
[Kennis]: What a
delicious way to teach them about food! I bet they enjoyed that activity.
[Alvin]: It really
sounds like you create wonderful memories with your kids.
[Miss Lee]: I do!
It’s so rewarding to share these experiences and help them understand where
their food comes from.
[Marcus]: Thank
you so much, Miss Lee, for sharing your inspiring stories with us. We’re really
excited to have you here at our school!
[Kennis]: Thank
you, Miss Lee.
[Alvin]: Welcome
again, Miss Lee!
[Miss Lee]: Thank
you all! I look forward to creating more fun experiences with the students here!
